Pottering around

I recently was inspired to do some little Harry Potter sketches. I think I've never drawn HP fanart before in my life, but these were a lot of fun. Other characters may be lurking around in the depths of my computer... unfinished, sad, and alone. Poor things.

Just some stuff.

Here are a few things I've been working on lately.

The first was inspired when I was out walking one day. It was a cloudy and blustery day, and I saw this tree with the most amazing orange leaves--the colors were so beautiful I had to make a little painting to remember them by.

The second is just a set of characters I started doodling in photoshop. I'd like to clean them up and make them nice, but this is sometimes a part of my process, so I thought I'd share.

And the last is a basic character mechanic sheet for a comic I'm working on. The story title will change, and so will the girl's name, but there are some of the basics.

That's it for now, space rangers.

Susanoo

Part two of my mascot designs for a contest.
This is a (loose) interpretation of Susanoo, the god of storms. He carries the sword Kusanagi, one of the three sacred treasures of Japan.

The requirement was that he have blond hair, or else I wouldn't have made Susanoo, the Japanese god of storms, a blond. However, given that there is a fair amount of interest in blondes in current Japanese culture and even in some mythology, I don't feel too bad. The colors were quite a bit more challenging on this piece than on my Amaterasu, but I tried!!

Amaterasu

This is an entry for a mascot contest whose theme is "Japanese Mythology." This is my take on Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess. She holds in her hand the Yata no Kagami, the mirror that is one of the three sacred treasures of Japan and is associated with the Sun Goddess.
This is a more complicated color scheme than I usually work with, but I'm trying to improve my range of what I feel comfortable doing.

Portrait

A portrait commission I recently did. I've never painted anyone so... supermodelish, so it was kind of a challenge! It was fun though. I'm trying to get better at portraits, and I definitely enjoy drawing beautiful women--who doesn't?
